Susan H. May, Ph.D.

Dr. Susan May provides professional intervention to individuals across the lifespan grappling with challenging life transitions, recovering from trauma, and coping with stress, depression, and anxiety. She delivers reflective, skill-building, and solution-oriented intervention that is future focused, proactive and empowering. Her practice focuses upon:

  • Psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and adults utilizing individualized approaches pulled from psychodynamic, family system, and cognitive-behavioral frameworks. She aims to engage clients and help them invest in the process that will develop their competency, efficacy, and emotional health.
  • Couples and parent intervention to foster healthier and more effective partnerships and family functioning. Adoptive parenting, co-parenting post divorce, and grandparent parenting are areas of specialization.
  • Family therapy helps to enhance family communication and problem solving skills and reduce power struggles within the family. Dr. May is intrigued by and enthusiastically assists with complex family challenges including those involving intergenerational conflict.
  • Diagnostic and educational consultations that have an evaluation component and yield written recommendations. Many feel empowered to advocate for their and their children’s needs with the clarity and game plan received.

A licensed psychologist for over 20 years, Dr. May is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and The City University of New York. She has appeared in media outlets including web, radio, and television. Dr. May was selected by SONY Television’s The Judge Hatchett Show as an on-air specialist in the areas of effective parenting, family life, and relationships. She currently serves as a consultant and contributor to Judge Glenda Hatchett’s Parent Power Now! Global Initiative. Dr. May speaks often to organizations on diverse personal and professional development topics. She also provides case consultation and professional supervision to fellow clinicians.
